Pictures, Puzzles, and Word Games

Glenda Jenkins Simmons was born and grew up in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, in rural Greenville, Mississippi. She grew up in a single-parent family, but had much love and support from grandparents, aunts, and uncles. The author attended Greenville Public Schools and graduated from Greenville High School in 1979. She studied at the University of Mississippi, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. Mrs. Simmons now resides on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

On her web site, the author writes, "Growing up on a farm as an only child, I became an avid puzzler. After all, with no one to play with, and the nearest neighbor living a mile 'down the road,' I had lots of time to work puzzles, and I found them to be fun, challenging, and good vocabulary builders. Even as an adult, I still enjoy the challenge of a good puzzle.

"Several years ago, I realized that in all my years of solving puzzles, I had never run across a puzzle book pertaining to subjects of African American heritage and history. So I began collecting information from many sources to create an educational and entertaining book to sharpen your wits on African American heritage and history. During my research, I also discovered that, even as an adult, there were so many great African Americans I had never heard of and their contributions to America and the world were invaluable in shaping our lifestyles and freedoms of today. Thus, this book was written with both teenagers and adults in mind. After years of hard work, I finally created my version of a black puzzle book-African American Heritage Pictures, Puzzles, and Word Games!"
